Expand your teaching toolbox with this playful exploration of the classical (and some not so classical) repertory on the Cadillac.  This workshop will explore exercises and movement protocols requiring the use of the Roll Down Bar, the Push Through Bar and the Trapeze.  Learn strategies to safely teach hanging and inversion exercises using the parallel bars.  As we move through these dynamic and full-body exercises on the Cadillac we will reference other exercises and apparatus in the Pilates system. Join Maria Earle to explore bold moves and an inversion practice at whatever level you are at.

      • The Chair: Make Your Worst Your Best

The chair was intended to be in every apartment, home, and hotel room. Its small footprint makes it excellent as an addition to a private session, for small group work and as a platform upon which a full class can be programmed. However, there are many exercises that create fear in both the instructor and the client. In this workshop you will learn how to tap into the creative strength of the chair and come away with ways to make the least favorite exercise become the best. You will be invited to put aside your fear of the chair and love it for all the potential it can inspire.

Workshop will be presented in English with Spanish translation.

        • Appropriate for: All instructors
      • Mindful Movement, Aging and the Cost of Inactivity

This workshop is based on the published article “Aging and the Cost of Inactivity: How Mindful Movement and Pilates can stem the Tide” which reveals what many of us already know….to stay healthy throughout our lifespan, we must move. However, the strategies of how to train and move clients evolves throughout the adult experience. Training for adaptability, agility, and the requisite strength to support lifestyle desires and physical pursuits is key to success and not uniform from decade to decade.  In this workshop will discuss the realities of aging on our health and the role of movement/exercise as a tool to hold off age related decline. We will discuss falls, fall prevention, the importance of eccentric training and how our unique Pilates environments can support longevity of health.

Workshop will be presented in English with Spanish translation.

      • Creating Length and Strength: Working with the Lower Back

Pilates is often recommended for clients with low back issues because of its emphasis on core strength, lumbopelvic stability, spinal mobility and integrated, whole-body movement. Whether you work in a fitness center, Pilates studio or rehabilitation facility, at some point you will work with clients with low back pain. Pilates principles and exercises, carefully and appropriately applied, can be very helpful for many clients with back pain. Pilates exercises carelessly taught can cause or exacerbate back pain. In this workshop we will review the essential principles and exercises on the Reformer for optimizing the function of the lower back.

Workshop will be presented in English with Spanish translation.

        • Appropriate for: Reformer instructors
    • Afternoon Workshops

      14:30 - 17:00

      • Three-Dimensional Core in the Pilates Studio

Training the core in three dimensions or all three planes is key to creating balance,   efficiency and proper load transfer through the body. Using the Pilates studio environment, you will learn how to create true functional strength by performing exercises in the sagittal, frontal and horizontal plane. Pilates focuses primarily on the sagittal plane so we will explore the frontal and horizontal planes with lateral flexion and rotational moves to create balance and functional strength. This work is very useful for clients with poor posture as well as for athletes and clients who perform asymmetrical tasks in their daily or sports training.

Workshop will be presented in English with Spanish translation.

        • Appropriate for: Comprehensively trained Pilates instructors
      • Return to Life on the Mat - 34 Ways to Control Gravity

A Pilates practice begins on the Mat, and it ultimately leads back to the Mat. Joe Pilates chose 34 original movements that—according to him—would establish and maintain good physical health. In this workshop, participants explore the exercises anew, discover their intended purpose, the logic in the original order, as well as helpful transitions and variations to introduce these movements.

Workshop will be presented in English with Spanish translation.

        • Appropriate for: All instructors
      • Scapula Mon Amour

The shoulder blades, arms and entire upper body are full of pitfalls and not easy paths to navigate for the Pilates teacher. Every client is unique, so cueing and variations must be adapted properly. Too much mobility or stability is never the ultimate answer. And looking for a balance requires a good map. Through our repertoire, through different pre-pilates traditions and other techniques, we’ll tread into this forest, learning how to draw a new map for every client, tailoring new exercises and adaptations for thousands of new classes.

Workshop will be presented in English with Spanish translation.

        • Appropriate for: Comprehensively trained Pilates instructors
      • Creative Movement on the Reformer

It’s all about the moves! The Pilates Reformer is full of opportunity and challenge. Bring your curiosity to this class and let Fabrice provide you with the opportunity to unlock your creativity on the Reformer. You will explore new moves and learn how to integrate them into a traditional Pilates Reformer class or with private clients. In this workshop we will explore key exercises and  learn how to apply just that one extra bit of something special that makes a client say…”voilá”.

Workshop will be presented in English with Spanish translation.
