FAQ

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) offer tax advantages for health-related expenses. The key difference is ownership—FSAs are employer-owned and typically “use it or lose it,” meaning unused funds expire yearly. HSAs, however, are individually owned, staying with you through job changes and allowing self-employed individuals to open one. Unlike FSAs, HSA funds can be invested and grow tax-free over time, making them a flexible long-term option for managing healthcare costs.

It’s common practice for HSA and FSA providers to send you a debit card that you can use to purchase eligible items. Both FSAs and HSAs are acceptable online and in physical stores.

You can also pay for health expenses with your regular credit or debit card, collect receipts, and submit to your HSA or FSA provider to be reimbursed.

If HSA/FSA payment options aren’t appearing at checkout, it could be due to:

  • Product Eligibility – Only certain health-related items qualify for HSA/FSA use. Check if your purchase meets the requirements.
  • Shop Pay Auto-Selection – If Shop Pay is enabled, it may prevent HSA/FSA options from appearing. Try checking out as a guest.
  • Insufficient Funds – If your HSA/FSA balance is too low, the transaction may not process.

If you’re still having trouble, check with your HSA/FSA provider for assistance.

Shop Pay may not always support HSA/FSA cards directly. To use your HSA/FSA card, try these steps:

  • Select a Different Payment Method – At checkout, look for an option to enter your card details manually instead of using Shop Pay.
  • Disable Shop Pay – If Shop Pay is auto-selecting, you may need to opt out or choose “Checkout as Guest.”
  • Check Eligibility – Ensure the item qualifies for HSA/FSA purchases, as ineligible items may prevent the card from being accepted.

If you still have issues, contact your HSA/FSA provider for assistance.

A qualified customer for HSA (Health Savings Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) products is someone who meets the eligibility requirements for these accounts and currently has an HSA or FSA account.

Upon checking out, select “Flex” as your payment option.  You will then be prompted to answer a brief telehealth survey regarding your HSA/FSA-approved condition. In a few hours, you’ll receive a Letter of Medical Necessity, which can then be submitted to your administrator for reimbursement if you choose to pay with a regular credit or debit card.

To use your HSA or FSA card for a qualified product, the IRS requires a Letter of Medical Necessity. Balanced Body has partnered with Flex to offer asynchronous telehealth visits during checkout. Within 24 hours of your purchase, Flex will email you an itemized receipt.

Please email support@withflex.com, and they will reach out to their telehealth team to reprocess and send your corrected Letter of Medical Necessity.

Please check your spam folder, as emails from notifications@withflex.com may sometimes be filtered as spam by certain email providers. If you still can’t find it, please contact support@withflex.com and provide the email address associated with your order.

If you don’t have your HSA or FSA card available, still choose “Flex | Pay with HSA/FSA” as your payment method. Enter your credit card information, and Flex will email you an itemized receipt for reimbursement submission.

Sales tax for eligible items is also covered by HSA/FSA funds. If the customer has a split cart, the tax will be allocated across the cards based on the items.
